Who are the Best Candidates for a Facelift?
The best candidates for a Facelift are healthy individuals with no medical conditions that could impair their healing. It’s also very important to have a positive outlook going into the procedure, and maintain realistic expectations. If you are a smoker, we highly suggest that you stop at least a week before your procedure and during your recovery.
What to Expect on the Day of Facelift?
When you come in for your surgery, you will first be administered anesthesia in the form of intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. Dr. Timek will discuss which one she feels is best for you during your consultation. After you are under anesthesia, the surgery will begin. There are three techniques that Dr. Timek uses when performing a Facelift, depending on the degree of change you’re trying to achieve.
- Traditional Facelift: the incision begins at the hairline of the temples and continues around the ear, ending in the lower scalp. Dr. Timek can sculpt or redistribute the fat from the face, jowls, and neck. She can also reposition the underlying tissue and lift the deep layers of the face and muscles. Your skin is then redraped over the new, uplifted contours with any excess skin being trimmed away. If needed, a second incision is made under the chin to improve your neck’s appearance. She will use sutures or skin adhesives to close the incisions.
- Limited Incision: also called a “Mini-lift”, this technique uses shorter incisions at the temples that continue around the ear. This is usually performed on patients who have less skin relaxation. While there is less of an incision and recovery time, the results aren’t as pronounced as the traditional facelift.
- Neck Lift: designed to help fix sagging jowls, loose neck skin, and fat that accumulates under the chin. The incision will begin in front of the ear lobe and wrap around behind the ear, ending in the back of your hairline just behind your ear. While it is typically performed in conjunction with a Facelift, the neck lift can be done as its own surgery.
Quad A Accreditation
The Surgical Suite
The American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. was established in 1980 to standardize and improve the quality of medical and surgical care in outpatient facilities and assure the public that patient safety is a top priority in an accredited facility. Quad A now accredits thousands of international and domestic facilities, making it one of the largest not-for-profit accrediting organizations in the United States. Physicians, clinicians, legislators, state and national health agencies, and patients acknowledge that Quad A sets the “gold standard” for quality patient care.
Accreditation represents a high level of attention to the details that make an ambulatory medical facility safer. Quad A has developed stringent, nationally recognized standards that are continuously reviewed and revised as new developments occur. Patient safety is never compromised when standards are amended.
